THE GREAT British Bake Off launched which means bakers across the country will be getting out their aprons to play along with the bake-off challenges.

Foodies have been waiting in anticipation for the popular cooking competition to return to Channel 4 at 8pm on Tuesday.

However, if you would describe yourself as somewhat culinary challenged, this article is for you - as we take a look at the top five bakeries in Worcester according to TripAdvisor. 

5. Izzy's Ices and Donuts

In fifth place, we have a Filipino dessert place that serves a varied selection of doughnuts (including gluten-free ones) and traditional desserts.  

One reviewer said: "Amazing service very friendly and 1) out of 10 for the tasty doughnuts with so much choice and they sell gluten-free too well recommended 100% The best in Worcester believe me."

4. Ketch Cafe 

Ketch Cafe on Sherriff Street is known for its cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. 

From Tuesday to Saturday the cafe welcomes cake-lovers and serves up a selection of baked goods including carrot cakes and brownies.

3. Colston Bakeries  

Colston Bakeries on Angel Place earned itself third place on TripAdvisor's list. 

The bakery is just a seven-minute walk from Worcestershire Cricket Club ground and loyal customers have described the bakery as a traditional little spot with a selection of treats. 

But a lot of reviewers also love the savoury options including the sandwiches and sausage rolls.   

A fan of the bakery said: "This lovely little bakery with just a few covers produces freshly made rolls, savouries and a wealth of tempting cakes at the most reasonable prices, well worth coming just out of the town for your take-out lunch at a fraction of the cost in other eateries."

2. Lawrance's Quality Bakers of Evesham & Pershore

This shop on High Street comes in second place after winning the hearts of many by offering customers fresh cakes and tasty pastries.

One cake-lover said: "Excellent choice of cakes and patisserie, located on the high street. I've always loved their chocolate flapjack but it's not always available."

1. Cafe Viaduct

Cafe Viaduct on Grand Stand Road earned the top spot as the best bakery in Worcester according to TripAdvisor. 

The cafe overlooks the River Severn and can act as a great pit stop for runners, dog walkers and bike riders by offering them a selection of cakes and 'excellent' coffee.

A fan of the bakery left a review and said: This is a lovely cafe by the river. The food is always tasty and the cakes delicious, all homemade I think.

"It's good to have a walk by the river and stop here for refreshments or ice cream etc. The staff are always pleasant and it's good value.

"Even if it's raining the huge weeping willow trees by the cafe with benches underneath them keep you dry and you can enjoy your food al fresco."
