LORRY drivers have been blamed for human waste discovered in hedgerows in a city estate.

It is thought that drivers parked up in Warndon Villages are using the bushes as a toilet or to dispose of human waste.

Litter picker Sarah Murray, part of the Warndon Wombles group, discovered bottles of urine, soiled toilet paper and a cup filled with excrement on Wainwright Road.

Sarah revealed that the group found soiled toilet paper, bottles of urine and a cup filled with faecal matter.

She believes the waste was dumped by lorry drivers who park along the road for breaks overnight - and blames a lack of facilities.

Sarah said: “Wainwright Road and other parts of this industrial area provide free and necessary overnight parking for lorry drivers who have little choice due to lack of facilities specifically for them.

"We are letting them down, which in turn is letting down residents who are expected to tolerate the local area being used as a giant toilet.

"I understand that they are using free parking, but surely some facilities should be put in place, for example, portable toilets.

"Anything to stop them dumping their excrement in our hedgerows."

Sarah said the drivers need to have provisions to stop this kind of behaviour from happening.

She said: "Would it be so difficult to make some provision, for example at Sixways Business Park?

"People want things in the shops and want things delivered but nobody gives any thought to how these goods are moved around and what provision is made for these drivers who, as we learnt with recent shortages, provide essential services and are an invaluable resource.

"The UK is particularly bad at this and needs to be better.  It would be good to see Worcester leading the way.

"Of course, they need facilities; who doesn’t? There isn’t even a litter bin, although preparations for a litter bin have been evident for around two months now.”

A spokesperson for Worcester City Council said: “It is a criminal offence for anyone to defecate or urinate on public open space or private land, so this is a matter for the police and we will bring this to their attention.”

The Warndon Wombles group claim to be active on Wainwright Road regularly, where lorries tend to park up due to the extent of the littering.

Sarah Murray said that several bags of litter were filled in the space of an hour on Saturday.
