FRIENDS of a young man who died in a car crash more than five years ago are organising a charity night at a top Worcester night-spot.

Carl Hawkins, who lived in Powick and attended Hanley Castle High School, died in October, 2002, in a car accident.

His family and friends set up the Carl Foundation in October, 2007, so they could bring a positive outcome to their loss - and the charity night will be a way for them to raise money for the fund.

Trustees Deana Jenkins and Julie Dyde are helping organise the event in Drummonds, New Street which will be held on Sunday, March 30, at 8pm.

Mrs Dyde said: "We are hoping to get about £1,000 on the night. It should be a good evening.

"We have been selling raffle tickets for the last few months and there are some really good prizes." The foundation, which is being registered with the Charities Commission has been set up to provide assistance to local people who have been disadvantaged through illness, disability or circumstance.

The evening will include live entertainment from Carl's cousin Hannah Dallas, local singer Joby and Flamenco Dancers.

The pair, who are both life coaches, are in the process of opening a spiritual centre called Changes-4-Life in Worcester from where the charity will also be run. Proceeds will be donated to a young Worcester boy who is suffering from leukaemia to send him and his family on holiday.

Carl, who was 20, was killed in a head-on collision on the A38 at Coombe Hill, near Tewkesbury in 2002. His friend Victoria Reading, also 20, of Warndon was travelling in the passenger seat and also died.
