What is the only food in the world that has every substance you need for survival (including water)?

It's also packed full of vitamins and antioxidants, is fat free, and has no salt or cholesterol. OK, one final clue - it is also great at fighting infections and was used to treat wounds as recently as the First World War.

The answer - honey. One of the world's oldest foods - the Ancient Egyptians were big fans - is still here and going strong.

Next week is National Honey Week and you'll find some of the best honey at your local farmers' market.

Retired police officer Frank Dooley and his wife Shirley had kept a few hives for a number of years at their Kingswinford home and, once Frank had a bit more time on his hands, they decided to start Beez Neez Honey, selling honey and related products to friends and relatives Now, they have hives all around the Severn Valley, as well as some up in Yorkshire during the heather season, allowing them to offer their farmers' market customers a variety of flavours.

Frank said: "We have a wide range of honey, including star flower, blossom, wild flower and lavender."

Beez Neez also sells heather and star flower honeycombs in boxes or you can buy jars of honey with chunks of honeycomb in them.

One of their most popular products is a mix of honey and pollen - which is very popular with hayfever sufferers.

"We have pollen traps beneath the hive, so when the bees come into the hive a little of the pollen is brushed off their pollen sacs into a drawer below. It only brushes a little pollen off because it's essential for the young bees.

The pollen is then dried and mixed with the honey.

People eat this all year round and it helps them to tolerate pollen when the hayfever season comes round.

It works a bit like a vaccination.

"We sell as much of this as we can produce.

"Honey is one of nature's secret weapons, it's always working for you. People use it for all kinds of reasons, especially colds, coughs, sore throats and chest infections.

"It's really good for coughs - there was some research recently that said that honey was more effective than shop-bought cough medicines."

Beez Neez will be at the farmers' market at St Peter's Garden Centre, Norton, Worcester, today between 9.30am and 2pm.

Next weekend's market is at Droitwich from 9am to 2pm.
