MEMBERS of a local community gathered at a Worcester pub to watch the Queen's funeral and pay their respects.

Co-owner of the Alma Tavern, Jon Dean, organised a screening of the funeral at his pub to give anyone who lives alone a space to watch the event and mourn with other members of the community.

Mr Dean said: "Our demographic, locally, is a lot of single people and a lot of retired people.

"We just wanted to offer a space for people to come and show their respects, show their remembrance but to do so in a group rather than having to sit at home with their own thoughts.

"So, instead people can come here to share their thoughts and recollections in a supportive environment.

"The demographic here at the Alma Tavern is fantastic.

"The people are lovely and so we decided to open and be that facility for the local community.

"It's been absolutely fantastic so far this morning.

"We've had a steady stream of people coming in. Some people are sat in the restaurant with their own thoughts and views.

"Others want to sit in front of the screen to watch Her Majesty's funeral in the function room and we have people sat outdoors as well and watching on the outdoor screen."

The Alma Tavern will serve food until 8pm this evening and will be open until 10pm which is its usual opening hours.

Matt and Kelly Wild came along with their children Brooke and Sophia to watch the Queen's funeral in a community space.

Mr Wild said: "We've come down to watch the funeral here for a sense of community and for a better atmosphere.

"We wanted to see everyone getting involved and watching it together."

Mrs Wild said: "We looked at quite a few pubs and bars and the only place we could find screening it was here.

"We've actually never been here before so this is our first time at the Alma Tavern."
