Board game club hosts successful first event

The first meeting of the new Wyvern Tabletop Games Club took place last Sunday, with over a dozen gamers taking part.

There were six tables in play throughout the night, with 40 games to choose from out of a rotating library of around 200.

"We were pleasantly surprised at how many gamers came out to join us," said one of the organisers, Bob Churchill.

"There's something very chill about playing in a venue that is dedicated to games for the night.

“And a hall like that is roomy so we're able to customise the space with things like low end-tables at every gaming table so that people can keep their cups and bags and things out of the way and are a bit less likely to spill drinks and ruin the games.

“And there's a bar, but no pressure to spend lots of money. We're providing tea and coffee, and you can bring your own drinks. It's a very cheap, fun night out."

Nights such as these are usually held at pubs or dedicated board game cafes.

However, this new club is looking to bring a new approach, hiring out Bishampton’s refurbished village hall.

It is also aimed at encouraging new members, from those with lots of experience to those who have only played traditional games such as Cluedo or Scrabble.

Wyvern Tabletop Games Club meets on the second Sunday of the month at Bishampton Village Hall from 6pm to 9.30pm, with the next event set to take place on Sunday, October 9.
