STAFF and pupils at a city primary school are celebrating after being awarded "outstanding" by Ofsted in its latest report.

Northwick Manor Primary School received a glowing report following the school's inspection on July 12 and 13 this year.

Inspectors praised the school for its varied curriculum, range of opportunities available to pupils, ambitious maths curriculum and its commitment to ensuring that pupils learn to read.

Ofsted found that "pupils are not concerned about bullying" and that staff are quick to notice and stop unkind behaviour.

They added that staff are positive about working at the school and parents are "highly supportive".

Inspectors said: "This school has a strong track record in preparing pupils exceptionally well for secondary school.

"This is because leaders have designed an ambitious curriculum.

"In all subjects, there is a clear line of sight for how learning should build from reception through to year six."

Ofsted found that staff had high expectations for pupil behaviour and that they teach pupils "the value of hard work, self-respect and taking responsibility.

"Pupil house captains, well-being champions and school councillors give pupils a voice in shaping school life.

"Jobs like this also teach them how to consider and represent the views of others."

Headteacher Sian Williams said: “We are all absolutely thrilled with our ‘outstanding’ outcome following our recent Ofsted inspection.

"I think it really demonstrates how committed the team are here at Northwick; everyone wants the best for our pupils and the comments in our report reflect everyone’s dedication and drive to make sure that the curriculum is engaging and every day is memorable.

“We were really able to showcase our curriculum over the two days and there was so much extra-curricular provision going on, from sports events to our traditional year six musical show that we were able to show how we develop pupils in all areas beyond the day-to-day lessons.

“I am particularly impressed how staff have managed to continue to strive towards this outcome despite the challenges of the last two years with Covid-19; everyone deserves this and it was a real team effort.

"I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed their summer break – deservedly so.

“Our pupils were fantastic.
