A BEREAVED mum is suffering with nightmares and panic attacks after sewage water flooded her daughter's memorial garden.

Lyndsey Bennett, of Brickfields Road, woke up to her garden being flooded with sewage and a foul smell spreading through the house.

Last night (Monday), Ms Bennett said she was forced to call paramedics who found she was suffering a severe panic attack.

The mum has also had nightmares since sewage water ruined a memorial garden that was created for her daughter Emily, who died early this year aged 25.

Severn Trent has apologised and been out to the home to fix the issue.

However, the incident has been extremely distressing for Ms Bennett.

She said: "It was a horrible night. I dreamt I was drowning in all of the filth outside and had to call the paramedics because I was having a panic attack.

"Thankfully today Severn Trent Water have been here to help fix the situation."

The sewage water contained visible remnants of toilet paper which was spread throughout the entirety of the garden.

Severn Trent Water apologised to Ms Bennett for the situation in her garden and has already begun a thorough cleaning of the garden.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We’re sorry about Ms Bennett’s situation as this is deeply distressing, our team worked quickly to remove the blockage caused by a build-up of wet wipes on the network yesterday morning and immediately began a thorough clean of the garden.

"We have returned to the property this morning (September 27) to complete the clean-up and we’re in close communication with Ms Bennett to see how we can further support at this time.”

Blockages can very easily form on the network due to sewer misuse as things like wet wipes can very easily catch onto fats, oils and greases, it said.

Ms Bennett also praised Severn Trent Water for their work on the garden, but the stench has unfortunately not left yet.

She said: "Severn Trent has been amazing with what they have done. It's all been cleared up but there is still unfortunately a foul smell."

The sewage water could be seen across the entirety of the garden and was rising and pooling in front of the back door and surrounding Ms Bennett's shed.
