Worcestershire Young Carers has been recognised for supporting children and young adults who have a caring responsibility at home.

The team has provided one-to-one, tailored support for youngsters, organising activities and running groups for them.

The support has allowed young carers to dream and aspire that there will be more to their lives than the responsibility of care.

Cheryl Byrd has been nominated by a father after she helped his son through a seizure.

He was grateful that Cheryl helped his son, who was 16 at the time of his seizure in April 2021.

The dad said lots of staff were helpful but Cheryl stood out as someone with a calm presence.

She understood the upsetting nature of what the family had been through and explained things to his son very clearly.

She helped the family to be well-informed about the process and decisions they needed to take, ensuring that his son was able to make those decisions for himself.

"She shows real care and attentiveness; when you are with her you know that you have her complete attention and that you really matter."
