A spokesperson for Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe said: "Lots of customers in the last few days have been asking when we’re retiring and when will the shop close….well, we hope to have some lovely news for you soon!

"If all goes well with continuing negotiations, 97a High Street will be home to a new sweet loving family after Christmas so don’t despair, your favourite fudge, liquorice and all 1200 types of sweets should be available for many years to come!

"Until then, we have some stunning Christmas stock arriving in 2 weeks' time for our elves to start working their magic on!"

The couple is looking to retire and spend more time with family.

The business has been providing tasty treats for the last four years and has become a favourite sweet shop for sweet-lovers on their visit to the city centre.

Mrs Rasdall said: “It was always our intention to stay here for five years, with a view to selling the business as a going concern, so that our many lovely and loyal customers could continue to get a welcoming customer experience (and have endless football discussions with Mark).

Before becoming Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe, the building used to be The Learning Box, which was owned by Heart of Worcestershire College.

The location was used for students completing hairdressing qualifications.
