A MYSTERY gunman who shot at cars in a spate of 'wild west' attacks will face no action after the case was closed, sparking anger from some victims.

We reported in June how a gunman opened fire on several cars in Worcester, one bullet or 'pellet' narrowly missing a toddler as it punched a hole in the back window.

The windows of businesses in Worcester, including Bygones in Deansway and Listers Seat dealership in Ombersley Road, were also damaged during the drive-by shooting spree.

However, despite there being at least seven victims, West Mercia Police say they have exhausted all lines of enquiry into the case of criminal damage which involved multiple victims between 4.30pm and 5pm on Monday, June 27.

Among the victims was Faust Mazzocchi who was behind the wheel of his Mercedes Vito in Whittington, Worcester near junction 7 (Worcester South) of the M5 when he heard 'an almighty loud noise'.

Fortunately, there were no passengers in his nine-seater private hire van when his back window was shot, leaving a hole.

West Mercia Police were hunting the driver of a white BMW 3 Series.

The 61-year-old said at the time: "I couldn't believe it - it looked like a bullet hole. I wasn't frightened for my life but I was a bit shocked by how loud the noise was.

"If that bullet had come through at a different angle and hit me in the back of the head, I might still be on the sliproad to the M5."

Mr Mazzochi said he was 'not surprised' when he received a letter from the police saying the case had been closed.

"When the letter came in I looked at it, read it, tore it up and threw it in the bin. I'm done with West Mercia Police," he said.

Meanwhile, the driver of a Land Rover Discovery, who did not wish to be named, was heading towards Claines, north of Worcester on the A449 near, Hawford Lodge when he heard 'a tremendous bang' at around 4.30pm on the day of the attacks.

He pulled over in a layby further along the A449 and discovered the back window contained a 'bullet hole about the size of my little finger'.

In reaction to the letter, he said: "I'm really disappointed to be honest - that's the word I would use. But I'm not surprised. I feel like they have got away with it."

Another driver shared a photo of a Ford Focus Titanium X with a smashed back window which happened at Whittington, Worcester.

A ball bearing was also recovered from inside Bygones of Worcester.

Unless new evidence comes to light, however, no further action will be taken by West Mercia Police and the case has been formally closed.

The letter, shown to us by one of the victims, was received on September 26.

In the letter, a force spokesperson wrote: "A thorough investigation has taken place with numerous lines of enquiry being explored including CCTV opportunities, ANPR, forensics and a number of statements being obtained.

"As a result of the information that we have been provided with and having reviewed the circumstances of this crime, unfortunately, there are no further enquiries we can make and this investigation has been closed.

"If any new information becomes available about your crime this decision may be reconsidered."

West Mercia Police was approached for further comment.
