THE CAFE at a town's supermarket is set to close as part of a supermarket's refurbishment.

A refurbishment is set to take place at Waitrose in Saltway, Droitwich which will include the introduction of a new in-store bakery.

However, it will also mean the closure of the supermarket's cafe which sold pastries and hot drinks.

A spokesperson said that as part of the new refurb, it has unfortunately been decided to close the cafe at the Droitwich store.

However, it is making several updates to the shop including an in-store bakery and a larger range of John Lewis homeware.

There are no plans to close any further cafes in Worcestershire.

A Waitrose spokesperson said: "We want to provide the best possible shopping experience for customers.

"Following the refresh, we'll be offering everything from new dry-aged beef, to a new in-store bakery, where customers can enjoy fresh bread and bakery treats throughout the day.

"Elsewhere, we'll introduce a bigger range of John Lewis homeware and gifts and a greater variety of products on our in-store counters.

"Customers will still be able to purchase a hot drink via our MyWaitrose loyalty scheme."

It is believed the decision was taken as the cafe at the Waitrose Droitwich shop wasn't widely used.
