A WOMAN has been given a suspended jail sentence for inflicting grievous bodily harm on a child.
Rhiann Bowyer, of Firs Lane, Bromyard, had previously admitted one count of maliciously and unlawfully inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent on a child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in Herefordshire between December 1 and 16, 2019.
The court heard Bowyer had pleaded guilty on a basis which was not accepted by the crown.
But Judge James Burbidge KC said it would not make a material difference in the case so moved on to sentencing her at Worcester Crown Court on Monday, (October 24).
Judge James Burbidge said although Bowyer was a woman of previous good character this had to be balanced against her lying to police and courts, before eventually admitting her guilt.

Bowyer was handed an 18-month jail sentence, suspended 18 months.
She was ordered to do 200 hours unpaid work and 25 rehabilitation activity days.
The judge warned Bowyer if she breached any of the conditions of the suspended sentence order, or if she committed another offence in the next 18 months, she could expect to be brought back to court.
