THE Worcestershire FA have responded to comments concerning the issues with floodlights at Claines Lane following Tuesday night's Midland Football League match between Worcester City and Stourport Swifts.

Only five of the lights were on in the build-up to the match, meaning both sides had to use just the one half of the pitch to warm-up in.

The WFA explained that the reasons behind the lights being off during the warm-ups and five minutes after the game were with a nod to the carbon footprint and being 'fiscally responsible'.

"Like all businesses we have multiple responsibilities to our customers, our community and to be responsible citizens.

"We have liaised with users of our site over recent months, including Worcester City. In order to be fiscally responsible - as well as reducing our carbon footprint whilst minimising the impact on our neighbourhood - we have established some measures which align with our responsibilities.

"One of the measures is that is probably the most visible is to reduce time that our non LED floodlights are on. This means that half of the floodlights will be on until 15 minutes before kick-offs for evening matches and will be switched off five to ten minutes after full-time.

"This does mean certain adjustments for warm-ups are required but that has been clearly communicated to the opposition by the clubs involved."

Worcester News:

Stourport were warming up in the dark before kick-off on Wednesday night and seemed audibly irritated that they could not warm-up using the full half of the pitch.

Both of the teams finished their warm-ups as the floodlights went on.
