NEW information detailing the next phase of a major new housing plan near Worcester has been revealed.

Developer Bloor Homes put in a reserved matters application to Malvern Hills District for 46 new homes off Martley Road in Lower Broadheath.

This represents phase five of the Temple Laugherne development.

The application is for the approval of reserved matters relating to layout, scale, external appearance and landscaping.

When built, the homes will be a mix of two, three and four-bed homes, 38 in all with a further eight being built for shared ownership and social rent.

A planning statement attached to the application said: "The proposed development will create housing choice and new amenity spaces for the new community whilst improving public access across the site and to the wider pedestrian network.

"The scheme delivers a range of family housing from two-bedroom houses through to larger four-bedroom detached houses with a mix of private and affordable.

"The design and layout have been carefully considered to create a new built environment for the 21st century that will accord with the principles of high-quality design and good practice."

The 46 new homes will form part of a wider West Worcester urban extension containing more than 2,000 homes when finally finished.

The original Temple Laugherne plans were approved back in 2016, when the original South Worcestershire Development Plan was approved by government inspectors.

In their report, the MHDC landscaping officer called for the retention of existing hedgerows on-site, despite these being absent from the plans.

The report said: "There is an established hedgerow running along the eastern boundary of the site. This needed to be retained.

"However, it does not feature on the submitted “Site Landscaping” plan

"The area where the hedge currently stands is shown as amenity grass. This is not acceptable.

"The hedgerow needs to be both retained and clearly shown on the submitted plans.

"While I would support additional tree planting along the stretch of hedgerow, this should be supplemental to the existing hedgerow, rather than instead of it."

The plans were submitted on October 4 and the consultation runs until November 24.
