TWO people have been cleared of unlawful wounding after the prosecution decided not to take the case to trial.

Harriett Womersley and Martin Taylor had previously denied unlawfully wounding of Shaun Powell in Pershore on August 3 this year.

They had been told they would be tried in February next year.

At Worcester Crown Court on Thursday, (November 17), their case was heard again, Taylor not attending while Womersley appeared over videolink.

Timothy Sapwell, prosecuting, said: "The crown has reviewed the case.

"It is not in the public interest (to proceed to trial).

"I offer no evidence on the count."

Judge Martin Jackson said not guilty pleas would be recorded on the count for the defendants, with the trial date vacated.

Belinda Ariss, defending Mr Taylor of Randwick Drive, Worcester, told the judge the 65-year-old would be notified.

Womersley is still to be sentenced for causing criminal damage to Shaun Powell's car, a Vauxhall Corsa, on August 3 having pleaded guilty to that charge at an earlier hearing.

The 34-year-old has also previously pleaded guilty to possession of an imitation firearm, a BB gun - with that offence taking place in Pershore on September 9.

And Womersley, of no fixed abode but previously of Linton Close, Drakes Broughton, near Pershore, has admitted causing criminal damage to a police vehicle on July 9.

William Dudley, defending Womersley, said she had a number of previous convictions but there had been a long break from offending.

He asked for a pre-sentence report so the sentencing judge would know the full facts.

Mr Dudley added: "The defendant is realistic to the precarious position she is in."

After ordering the report Judge Jackson told Womersley she would be sentenced for all matters at the crown court on December 15 this year.

Womersley was remanded in custody.
