'A  NIGHTMARE' - that is how a road near Worcestershire Royal Hospital has been described by one resident.

Staff from the hospital are said to be using Linksview Crescent in Ronkswood, to park the cars but are leaving them in dangerous positions.

Susan Brennan, of Linksview Crescent, has lived on the road for 30 years and believes the road has "become a nightmare" to live on.

She claims the issue is being ignored and that the residents are having to live with the consequences.

She said: "Since the hospital has been built it has been one headache after another.

"They park on the corners and on the pavement.

"We have people who have limited sight, mothers with pushchairs and disabled pensioners that use wheelchairs here now and drivers have chosen to block the entrance over and over again this last year.

"We have needed the emergency services on quite a few occasions and with them now blocking the entrance and exit, it has become a nightmare living here.

"The police ignore it, the council ignore it and around elections, the councillors are full of what they are going to do about it but as yet not one of them has done what they said they would."

Councillor Allah Ditta, Worcestershire County Councillor for Nunnery Ward, has submitted ideas to help with the problem but said "the big wheel turns slowly".

He said: "I put the application in which will be followed by a consultation but the big wheel turns slowly and there are other things that are ahead of this issue on the list.

"I understand the argument from the residents which is why I have pushed it forward to the cabinet member but, when I was door-knocking earlier this year, the issue was not raised to me.

"However, I can assure residents it is being looked into."

In response to previous issues raised regarding Linksview Crescent, the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust acknowledged that the current parking provision in place across its hospitals "is not sufficient".

Councillor Mike Rouse, cabinet member for highways and transport at Worcestershire County Council, said: We are sympathetic to the issues raised, which is why we extended double yellow lines around the junction years ago and added a vehicle restriction for the whole Crescent apart from those accessing their properties.

"The responsibility for enforcing the parking restrictions lies with the City Council, so we will raise this with them on behalf of the resident, but with more cars on the road than ever before we all need to be mindful of how we park so municipal and emergency vehicles can get through.”

West Mercia Police also recently said issues with parking enforcement are the responsibility of "local councils", after issues in Cathedral Square.
