I went to a charity shop with £10 and I was shocked at how expensive everything was.

After being tasked with the job to find an affordable Christmas party outfit, I was released from Worcester News HQ and made my way to the High Street.

As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, I seem to be forever scrolling on TikTok for affordable hacks and bargains so I was quite excited to see what I could find.

Despite the drizzly weather, I was optimistic about what might be up for grabs in Worcester's charity shops.

First up, I wandered into Salvation Army on Queen Street and my eye was caught by a pricey-looking leather jacket propped on the rack.

For £40, I quickly put the jacket back on the rack in the hopes of finding something a little more within my budget.

I found a checked blazer for £12 but with that also eating up my entire budget, that also made a swift return back to the racks.

Although Salvation Army did have a few good bargains, I opted to make my way to a couple of other charity shops in the city centre.

I had slightly better luck in Acorns and managed to find a skirt for £4 which I then paired with a long black t-shirt for £3.

The outfit came to £7.

With £3 to spare, I decided to look for some shoes, but quickly realised how optimistic that was considering my budget.

I did manage to find some ankle boots, but as they cost £5, I was unable to add them to my outfit.

So I left the black boots behind.

Next, I went into St Richard's Hospice and found a pair of Mom jeans for £5.50

I decided to make my way to Sense to see if I could find a nice top to pair the jeans with and found a knitted jumper for just £2.

However, you could also dress up the jeans with this white blouse which was also £2.

I came to the conclusion that while charity shops have always been a key feature of high streets across Britain, as prices continue to rise everywhere, they may be at risk of alienating their target audience.

Although I managed to secure a couple of bargains, I think the days of 50p steals may be something of the past.
