A Romanian restaurant has found a new home in a historic city centre restaurant and is set to open its doors this week.

La Terasa Rustic Grill is a traditional Romanian restaurant that is opening on Friar Street on Thursday (December 1) - in time for the Victorian Fayre.

The restaurant is taking over the building which used to be the home of Meeting Place cafe.

The owners were forced to close earlier this year due to issues with rising costs.

La Terasa was formerly based on Waterworks Road and was opened by Dumitru Stefan with the hope of bringing Romanian food and culture to the city.

However, the eatery closed down shortly afterwards as the owner did not feel the location was appropriate.

Speaking about the new location, Mr Stefan said: "This location is exactly what I have been searching for. I wanted something rustic to fit in with our theme.

"I want to bring Romanian food, cooked traditionally with all fresh meat and vegetables to the city centre.

"It is such an exciting time, but also very tiring. We just cannot wait to open this Thursday."

The majority of the food is cooked on a grill and other food that cannot be grilled, such as soups, is cooked over a fire.

The restaurant is already fully booked for opening day, and Mr Stefan has said he has received positive feedback from lots of residents about the food already.

He said: "We have already had a lot of people from English and South Asian backgrounds come to the old location and were very complimentary about the food.

"We have a loyal Romanian customer base also which is always amazing to see. We want to offer a good experience and I am in the process of making everything perfect for the opening day."

La Terasa is a family business and Mr Stefan previously told the Worcester News he collates ideas from different members of his family to make the restaurant what it is.

Mr Stefan said bookings can be made online and a new website is also on the horizon.

He said: "We have a new website coming soon where you can book a table.

"We will also soon be available on all major delivery apps as well."
