Football stars of the future are fundraising for a special trip to Paris to reunite with players they bonded with during a summer camp.

The girls from Worcester City Under 14s baked and sold cakes at Kempsey Fayre last weekend in a bid to start raising money for the trip.

The girls have a target of £5,000 and made an impressive £280 over the course of the three hours – also handing out wrapped mystery presents.

Worcester City Womens’ captain Jess Fassinidge paid a special visit to cheer them on.

Leading the fundraising event, central midfielder Indie Lannie, said: “I think the event went well as a starting point considering it was our first event, people were generous and supportive of our goal.”

During the summer, a girls team from Le Vesinet - a suburb of Paris - visited a summer camp run by Worcester City Women and immediately bonded with the girls.

Over the weekend, friendships were formed and the players remained in contact ever since – with some of the girls developing their French to ensure they can continue to build their friendship.

The team have future fundraising events planned – and a raffle that a number of local companies have donated prizes to help achieve their target.

Manager Steve Birmingham wanted to thank to everyone who has donated,

He said: “On behalf of the girls, parents and coaches, we are touched by the generosity of local businesses who have donated prizes or money to help the girls achieve their dream of visiting their friends in Paris.”

The team have been together now for over four years and are hoping this is just the start of many steps towards them reaching Paris next October.
