A MOTHER has been left fearing for her baby's health after discovering her new home is covered with mould.

Kaitlin Jodie Gray, age 22, was excited to move into her new flat in End Hill Way, Malvern, eight months ago.

However, Miss Gray's joy has quickly turned into worry as mould spores cover surfaces and her possessions despite her best efforts to keep the flat clean.

She can't even let her ten-month-old daughter Mila Rose crawl around in the bedroom in case she comes into contact with the mould.

Miss Gray first reported the problem to Platform Housing in November but feels "fobbed off" as they have only given her a damp pack as a solution to combat the mould.

Miss Gray fears for her baby's health especially following the death of Awaab Ishak, aged two and from Rochdale, who died after being exposed to excessive amounts of toxins in mould.

The mum said she cannot help but think the worst.

Miss Gray said: "I can't even let me baby wander around in my bedroom in case she touches something.

"After Awaab Ishak, I keep thinking the worst and that it's going to happen to my baby, but it won't.

"Stories like this should motivate the council to take mould seriously because they have heard of it."

The stay-at-home mum said she feels upset and disappointed by the situation which has left her wanting to move house.

She added: "I’ve told them it’s mouldy. My furniture is now destroyed, my partner's belongings are destroyed.

"There was a chest of drawers my partner has worked for and then it just got destroyed by mould.

"I'm autistic, so I just feel like I'm being fobbed off.

"Platform Housing has sent me a damp pack but it will take six weeks for the mould to clear up.

"I thought that pack was a joke because between now and six weeks my daughter will be really ill.

"The mould is in my bedroom, my daughter's bedroom and even in my front room.

"It's just working for money and then having your things destroyed by the mould.

She added: "I ventilate my flat, and open my windows all the time. It doesn’t help that I don’t have windows in my kitchen or my bathroom."

Marion Duffy, who is the chief operations officer at Platform Housing Group said: "We are sorry to hear about Miss Gray's concerns.

"We will work with her to help resolve the problem and a surveyor will be intouch to arrange an appointment."
