A Worcester art gallery is celebrating a year since moving to a city shopping mall.

To mark the anniversary, art is ar’t the gallery in the Crowngate Shopping Centre is hosting an art event tomorrow (Saturday, December 10).

Visitors will be able to enjoy bubbly, mince pies and fancies from 12pm, and from 1pm to 3pm the artist Alexander Rhys will be there.

The gallery is showcasing a selection of his Japanese inspired urban art - and this gives people the chance to meet with him and find out what drives him in his art.

Any purchases of Alexander’s artwork can be personalised with a message on the rear of the painting from the artist, if they so wish.

Alexander is from Birmingham and studied Fine Art at Birmingham and Bath Spa Universities.

He started off painting abstracts, influenced by 1950s abstract expressionists Rothko, Franz Kline, De Kooning and Pollock, then moved on to impressionist works heavily influenced by Monet.

He now paints in a style influenced by his love of the format and design of old Japanese signs and postcards.

Dermot O’Connor, of art is ar’t the gallery, said: “We are equally as excited in meeting customers, old and new, to celebrate with us this coming Saturday.

“Since we moved to Worcester a year ago, we have received great support from our customers and visitors to our gallery.

“We have also struck up good working relationships with several local artists and are looking forward to working closely with these wonderful people, as well as providing our services in retail art for the general public too in the coming years.”

Mr O’Connor added that he was delighted that Alexander Rhys was coming to the gallery.

“Since 2017, his work has been sold and published in London, Paris, Amsterdam, New York, LA, Chicago and Japan,” he said.

“Europe’s biggest Fine Art Publisher, and the UK’s biggest publisher, DeMontfort Fine Art, have recently taken Alexander onto their books and he is one of the latest rising stars in their stable. “We are very excited that Alexander agreed to come to art is ar’t the gallery as we celebrate our first year in Worcester.”
