NEW owners of a restaurant in a historic building that notoriously floods say they have measures in place to minimise closures.

Yeliz Blossom Room, on North Parade, has officially opened its doors at The Old Rectifying House.

The riverside building is regularly affected by flooding but new owner Archie Serin is not worried about the risk and has plans in place.

He said: "We know it is a possibility and we have plans in place for if the building were to flood again.

"I am aware The old Recitifying House had a lot of issues but we have taken precautions such as raising our electricals.

"It may result in having to close for a couple of days or a week but we are hoping it will not come to that."

The restaurant has gone through a refurbishment and has new furniture with decorative blue lighting surrounding the interior of the restaurant, much of which has been painted purple.

Mr Serin said he was excited and happy to see the business finally open, and he is happy to bring traditional Turkish and Mediterranean food to Worcester.

The restaurant serves a variety of Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine including Mixed Grill platters cooked on a charcoal grill, Turkish meze, Turkish pide (pizza)and traditional desserts such as baklava, kunefe and katmer.

Ten jobs have been created by the restaurant reopening.

The Old Rectifying House has been victim to multiple floods in recent years.

In 2020, the former restaurant it housed, the Old Rec, closed for six months after being devastated by huge floods and the coronavirus.

The building was then hit by flooding again in February of this year and had not opened since.

As the Old Rec, it was mentioned in the Michelin Guide.

Matt Denwood, the former owner of The Old Rectifying House, has now started a new business venture in Worcester, with HASH opening on Chapel Walk in August.
