He said: "The owner of the boat contacted me as he had been made aware by a neighbour the boat had broken free of its moorings and was making its way towards the rowing club.

"The boat arrived at Worcester Rowing Club at 4.40pm last night, with the fire brigade then arriving at the rowing club as well.

"Members of the rowing club had also arrived and gave one of the rescue workers a lift on one of the rowing club's motor boats to chase the stricken boat down the river while the remaining three rescue workers unloaded the fire boat into the water which then also gave chase.

"The first rescuer got to the boat at 4.44pm and secured it just before it got to the railway bridge.

"The fire boat then arrived and helped secure the boat and towed it back up to the Worcester Rowing Club where they tied it up overnight.

"The owner has now been and taken the boat back up the river to his house."
