THE latest crash on a 'notorious' road has led to calls for action as it is the latest in a string of prangs.

An elderly woman was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital after crashing into a parked car on Laugherne Road, in St John's, on Sunday (January 22).

The resident whose car was damaged called for traffic enforcement saying the road was 'notorious' after their car was crashed into three times in 14 months.

And councillor Richard Udall, Worcestershire county and Worcester city councillor for St John's, has backed the calls and asked for a "full accident investigation" to take place.

He said: "I am aware of the recent accident which took place in Laugherne Road on Sunday night.

"I have asked for a full accident investigation to take place and to see if any engineering work is necessary to the highway which may reduce the risk.

"The number of vehicles which use Laugherne Road has increased dramatically in recent times.

"I have ensured a vehicle-activated sign was erected which flashes at speeding cars to 'slow down' and I'm currently in the process of trying to start a community speed watch campaign on the road, which will allow local residents to help the police to enforce the speed limit."

Cllr Udall also claimed that the average speed of vehicles on the road is "not high".

He said: "The average speed of vehicles using Laugherne Road is not high, but the problems are caused by those who continue to insist on driving much faster than average.

"A handful of motorists who drive at speed or without consideration for the road conditions, we need to try to make this excessive speeding as socially unacceptable as drink driving.

"We don't yet know if the accident in question was caused by driving at speed, but we will examine the evidence and act if the investigation suggests any proposals".

West Midlands Ambulance Service, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and West Mercia Police all attended the crash.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police confirmed the driver of the car sustained "minor injuries".

They said: "At around 5.10pm on Sunday 22 January officers received a report of a one-vehicle collision on Laugherne Road, Worcester.

Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and the Ambulance service also attended the scene. The driver of the car had minor injuries."
