A retro gaming bar is making plans for a second time to move to a bigger venue.

The owners of Retroids Arcade Bar, which is currently based in New Street in Worcester, are looking to make the move to nearby College Street less than six months after plans to move to another venue fell through.

If plans are given the green light, the bar, which is filled with classic arcade and retro gaming machines and offers a range of craft beers and ciders, would move to a space opposite Worcester Cathedral, in a unit previously home to Worcester Cycle Centre and roughly triple the size of its current space.

While there is no definitive opening date, the owners were hoping to be open in the new venue by Easter and, if not, then the summer.

Retroids co-owner Dave Newey said he has put the disappointment of the Pump Street move falling through at the eleventh hour behind him and is excited to be building a bigger venue.

“Hopefully we’re finally set on a new place now, obviously we still have to sort out the legal bits and bobs but we’re getting there,” he said.

“It will open the door to so many opportunities for us. We do so many private parties for all ages so there will be a designated party spot which is pretty exciting.

“We’ll have a bigger bar because obviously the one we have now is quite small so we can expand on the drinks we offer, there’ll be more pinball, more competitions and just building on what we have done so far.”

Last summer, after year-long work, Retroids revealed plans to move into one of the several empty units in Pump Street, and despite the move receiving the backing of Worcester City Council, it later fell apart because of “reasons beyond [their] control.”

Retroids’ owners have now got the ball rolling on the move by applying to the city council for a licence to sell alcohol between 11am and midnight from its proposed new venue in College Street.

Worcester Cycle Centre relocated to Hallow on the edge of the city in 2021 having spent 23 years in College Street.
