The first two events of Evesham Festival of Words take place in March.
On Saturday, March 11, Rhianna Levi, the current Worcestershire Poet Laureate, will be running a poetry workshop on Zoom.

Entitled ‘Poetry within our Architecture’. See how you can be inspired by the glorious architecture in Worcestershire, and pick up tips on how to use your surroundings to create poetry.

The workshop runs from 10.30 am – 12 noon.  Cost £15, from www.eveshamfestivalofwords.org/Programme.

On Friday, March 17 the festival links up with Holland House for a two-course lunch event followed by a talk, entitled ‘No Man Is An Island – The Life and Poetry of John Donne’, with speaker, Jeremy Holmes.

John Donne was controversial even in the 17th century.  He grew up a Catholic but converted to Protestantism in an age when religion and politics were so interwoven people were burnt at the stake for their beliefs.

He gave some of the best sermons ever, but was forever conscious of his own mortality.  As he said: “Ask not for whom the bell tolls – it tolls for thee.”

Lunch is served at 1pm, but arrive early and enjoy a pre-lunch drink and chat in the lovely setting of Holland House and its gardens.

Tickets: £20, only available from Holland House, www.hollandhouse.org, or tel: 01386 860330.
