A CONSTRUCTIONS worker was left managing the traffic after temporary lights were left on red in all directions on a busy road into the city centre.

Three-way temporary traffic lights have been put up on London Road in Worcester due to ongoing Cadent roadworks.

But drivers were left feeling frustrated this morning (Tuesday) when all traffic was gridlocked in all directions because all of the temporary traffic lights had been left on red.

A worker had to direct the traffic by hand after drivers began beeping horns and shouting to get his attention - he was the only worker on site at the time.

One annoyed commuter said: "Everyone was getting annoyed because the traffic wasn't moving in both directions.

"I rolled down my window and said 'we're not moving' and then other cars began beeping their horns to get his attention.

"He shouted 'They're not our lights' but had to get in the road and direct traffic as we were at a standstill and the queues were just getting bigger and bigger.

"It wasn't his fault."

The carriageway heading up London Road towards Spetchley closed yesterday (Monday) for utility repair and maintenance works to begin.

Cones have also been placed across the entrance to Waitrose and the pedestrian crossing on London Road and near the entrance to the supermarket itself are temporarily not in use.

Traffic was forming queues on Whittington Road in Worcester on the approach to the roadworks and also heading up London Road towards Spetchley.

Traffic lights (multi-way signals) by Cadent are in place until Friday (February 24).
