THE recent snow and wet weather is likely to cause disruption across non-league football this weekend and Worcester City's clash with AFC Wulfrunians is in doubt.

Claines Lane tends to struggle with the rain and after a week of it, as well as some heavy snowfall, the Midland Football League Premier clash, scheduled for a 3PM kick-off, is under threat.

The pitch on Friday morning was already beginning to puddle in places and with melting snow around, water levels are likely to rise.

The Met Office forecast for the rest of Friday and the early parts of Saturday morning in Worcester looks largely dry, so there remains some hope that the surface could recover.

No pitch inspection has yet been confirmed but a spokesperson at Worcester City says one is being organised. Officials at the Worcestershire FA will be monitoring the pitch throughout Friday, with freezing temperatures overnight also having to be considered.

Should the game go ahead, it's another key one for Chris Cornes' men, who continue to try and pull clear of the relegation zone. The 2-1 win at Uttoxeter Town last Saturday pulled City seven clear of the drop zone with two games in hand, but their 2-1 mid-week defeat at Wolverhampton Casuals checked their momentum.

City remain in a strong position regarding staying in the league, but their lack of consistency will frustrate boss Cornes as the team have showed, at times, that they are much better than their league position suggests.

Eight matches remain of the MFL Premier 2022/23 campaign and the emphasis will be on the team climbing the table rather than watching behind, but given the situation, City are not out of trouble yet and until they are, relegation thoughts will continue to chip away.
