A PREGNANT woman said she would rather be homeless than bring her baby up in her mouldy flat she has described as being a 'mould cess-pit.'

Natea May-Griffiths, who is 14 weeks pregnant, has been battling with the mould in her flat on Albert Road in Worcester for four years.

During that time she has had to deal with mould on her floorboards, walls, bathroom and her bed and says she feels neglected by Platform Housing.

But now Miss May-Griffiths, age 23, said the mould in her home 'scares the living daylights' out of her because she is expecting her first baby in September.

After three miscarriages Miss May-Griffiths, 23, refers to her unborn child as her 'rainbow baby'.

She said: "I call this baby the rainbow baby because there is always a rainbow after the storm.

"And the three miscarriages was the storm."

However, she said she wants to enjoy her pregnancy and her 'rainbow baby' but feels as though she cannot because she is ashamed of her one-bedroom flat which has mould in every corner.

"I'm ashamed to have guests round, I don't even want my mum around.

"I don't want to bring my baby up in that flat with the damp and mould.

"I would rather be homeless than have my baby in that flat and that is saying something.

"No matter how much I clean it, I still feel dirty and ashamed.

"You don't come out of the shower feeling clean, I have to eat and sleep with mould everywhere.

"I had to sleep on a mattress on the floor for two years because of the mould in my flat.

"I pay money each week for a mouldy cess-pit.

Miss May-Griffiths, initially contacted Worcester News in July 2022 because there was a hole in her bathroom which was causing her floorboards to become mouldy.

She said: "When I contacted the Worcester News, they got into gear.

"But they botched up my floorboards."

Miss May-Griffiths claims the workers covered the mouldy floorboards with new floorboards instead of killing the mould.

As a result, the mould has spread all over her one-bedroom flat.

Steve Summerfield, external contracts manager at Platform Housing Group said: "We are sorry to hear of our customer's concerns.

"We are undertaking a survey this week and are in touch with the customer."
