A city sixth form college has kept its ‘good’ rating following an inspection.

Worcester Sixth Form College in Spetchley Road was handed a ‘good’ rating by Ofsted following an inspection at the end of January.

The college was praised for how it supports students to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviour they needed to be successful and found that students “treated each other with mutual respect and appreciated the importance of equality and diversity” and were “ambitious, committed to their learning and motivated to achieve.”

Ofsted also said that teachers were experts in their subjects that “created environments that allowed students to focus on learning and develop detailed knowledge enabling them to be successful.”

The college’s safeguarding measures were up-to-date and effective, according to inspectors, with students feeling safe and aware of how to report concerns.

Inspectors said the college could improve by making sure that students understood and appreciated the skills they were developing and how they could be used in other qualifications and jobs.

Teachers should also make sure that students are acting on any given feedback so there are no gaps in knowledge.

Ofsted said teachers and leaders at the school should also make sure students understood the risks of radicalisation and extremism is reiterated throughout their time at the college.

The college was last inspected in February 2016 where it received a ‘good’ rating and last received a ‘full’ inspection in 2012 where it was given the same grade.

Ed Senior, principal at Worcester Sixth Form College, said: “I am particularly proud that the inspectors got to experience the positive behaviour of our students first hand, acknowledged the strength of teaching and learning and how this successfully prepares our students for their progression.

“I am really pleased that the college retained a positive rating from Ofsted at a time when it is even harder to do so.

“As ever, there are areas where we can do more and where we were already focusing our efforts for further improvement.

“We will continue to strive to ensure that our students have the best experience during their time at college, that they achieve academic success and secure aspirational progression aims whether this is a degree, an apprenticeship or employment.”
