A WOMAN has been taken to hospital for her injuries after a car and lorry crash on the M5.

Paramedics were called to the crash on the M5 southbound between junction 5 (Droitwich) and junction 6 (Worcester) this morning (Tuesday).

The woman was treated for her injuries at the scene, which are believed not to be serious.

She has been taken to Alexandra Hospital in Redditch for further treatment.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 7.59am to reports of a road traffic collision between junctions 5 and 6 of the M5 southbound near Droitwich.

"An ambulance and paramedic officer were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a car and an HGV had been involved in a collision.

"One female patient was treated for injuries not believed to be serious by ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Alexandra Hospital for further treatment."

Lane four was closed for nearly an hour which caused up to 30-minute delays and approximately five miles of congestion on the motorway.

At the same time, commuters travelling northbound on the M5 between junction 5 (Droitwich) and junction 6 (Worcester) experienced delays after a car broke down in lane one. 

All lanes on the M5 between Droitwich and Worcester are now clear.

The latest National Highways West Midlands update reported up to 20-minute delays and around two miles of congestion.
