A theme park less than an hour from Worcester reopens this weekend.

Drayton Manor opens its gates for the 2023 season on Saturday, just in time for the Easter half term.

The season starts with a celebration of the 15 years of Thomas Land.

Birthday party balcony shows, a Thomas & Friends Easter hunt, street entertainment and decorations make up the park’s plans to mark the anniversary of Europe’s only Thomas Land.

Unfortunately, there are no new rides this year.

However, the new Viking area only opened last Spring with plenty of new attractions including the Disk’O Coaster Thor and the UK’s first Zamperla Nebulaz, Loki.

One ride that is missing from this year’s line-up is the iconic drop tower Apocalypse, which shut for good last October.

Opening in 2000 as the world’s first stand-up drop tower, Apocalypse saw passengers plummet 54 metres at 50 miles per hour.

Managing Director, Victoria Lynn, said at the time of its closure: “It’s always been such an honour to have the world’s first-ever stand-up drop tower ride right here at Drayton Manor Resort, and while it’s the end of an era for Apocalypse, we have big plans in the pipeline to expand our offering and make the resort as exciting as possible for our guests.

“We can’t wait to reveal our new developments in due course.”
