A man arrested in Worcester following a double murder near Cambridge remains in custody.

The 66-year-old, of no fixed address, was arrested by armed officers on a motorway near the city.

Meanwhile, a man, 27, and a woman, 33, have been released and will face no further action, Cambridgeshire Constabulary has confirmed.

It comes after a father and son were shot dead in two villages six miles on Thursday, March 30.

The man and woman had been arrested at a hotel outside Cambridge and held on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, before their release on Friday.

The 66-year-old meanwhile was arrested in the early hours of Thursday on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

Police said his vehicle was searched and a shotgun was recovered.

Officers are checking whether the firearm was legally owned.

The father and son who were murdered have been named locally as builder Gary Dunmore, 57, and 32-year-old son Josh Dunmore, who also worked in the trades.

Police were called to reports of gunshots in Meridian Close, Bluntisham, just after 9pm, then to similar reports in Sutton at 9.37pm.

Detective Chief Superintendent Jon Hutchinson said on Thursday the “primary line of investigation” related to a “familial issue”.

“It’s been widely reported in the media that this may relate to a custody battle,” he said. “I can confirm that is an active line of inquiry for us.”
