MEMBERS of Worcester City Supporters Trust have been invited to attend a Special General Meeting later this month to vote on whether to transfer their 51% share in the football club over to a new investor.

A letter sent to all members of the trust, seen by the Worcester News, states that the meeting will take place on May 15, where the members have been urged to vote FOR the proposal to bring in the new investor.

In October 2021, the remaining shares required to take the Trust to 51% ownership were transferred by shareholders, making the football club officially fan owned.

But in the letter, the Supporters Trust believe that voting for the proposal to bring in the new investor is needed in order to protect the long-term future of the club.

"The board of Worcester City FC Supporters' Trust believes the financial state of the club, combined with the limited scope we currently have for investment, means we must consider all options to ensure the long-term security of the club," the letter read.

"The club have been given an opportunity to secure significant investment which is greatly needed but would mean the majority shareholding held by the trust be transferred to the new investor.

"We have sought that written guarantees and protections would be put in place to safeguard the long-term future of the club and retain fan influence and involvement.

"On a majority vote of those members present to agree this change, the trust resolves to allow the transfer of 51% of shares to the new investor once the written protections mentioned above have been agreed and signed by both parties.

"The supporters trust board recommends members to vote for this proposal."

The meeting will have the investor present, as well as a member of the football club board.

The news comes after a difficult season for City both on and off the pitch. On it, they just about survived relegation, whilst off it, they had four managerial changes, causing a lot of discomfort for supporters.

The Trust have grown concerned that, in the last couple of years, City have fallen behind other non-league clubs in Worcestershire and believe a new investor is the way to go in order to protect the club's long-term future.

There seems to be little risk in the proposal, with the club having no assets in which to strip. The club currently pay the Worcestershire FA a figure close to £25K to play at Claines Lane and have done since moving there from Bromsgrove Sporting's Victoria Ground in 2020.

City had not played in Worcester since departing St George's Lane in 2013.
