WORCESTER City have confirmed that local businessman and club director Simon Lancaster is the investor prepared to make a 'significant investment' in the football club.

The Worcester News revealed last Friday that members of the Worcester City Supporters Trust had been invited to a Special Meeting on May 15 to vote on a 'significant investment' proposal.

And now City have confirmed via a club statement that investor is club director Simon Lancaster.

The statement read: "The Board of Directors are concerned about the financial viability of the club. WCFC has over the years lost money year on year.

"This has affected budgets and performances on the pitch, none more so than last season when standards were nowhere near high enough. However we are excited that a proposal has been put forward by club director Simon Lancaster to significantly invest into the football club to help secure its immediate, medium and long-term, future.

"This proposal has the unanimous support of the football club board. The proposal will now be voted on by members of the supporters Trust."

Lancaster is a local businessman, who was born in Worcester and runs a successful company in the area. He also manages one of the youth teams at City, in which his son plays for.

"Simon joined our main board last October. It is because of these combined interests in WCFC and business that we all believe he is the best person to help the club survive, and then indeed thrive."

The date for the vote was originally set for May 15.
