HUNDREDS of kindhearted people from across the world have sent birthday cars to a Droitwich man with motor neurone disease.

John Adams, 78, has been inundated with 600 birthday cards from as far away as Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

He is being sponsored for the cards to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

Mr Adams, from Droitwich, was diagnosed with MND in 2017 and was only given 12 to 18 months to live.

Six years later, Mr Adams has become well known for his fundraising efforts earning the nicknames Sir John and MND Warrior.

Mr Adams will be turning 79 tomorrow (May 12) and to mark the milestone he set up a fundraiser where money will be donated per card he receives.

"He has loved it.

"I came over on the weekend, and we had over 140 cards.

"While he was reading them, he was getting emotional by the messages which were saying how he had inspired them to keep going - all from people with the disease or have lost people to it.

"People who never met him or even know him are sending him cards."

She said Mr Adams takes his time reading and rereading every message from all the cards he receives.

Some days the post person struggles to fit all the cards through the door, and Ms Millward said they are now looking to expand into other rooms to fit all the cards.

Ms Millward added: "With the number of messages John has received, he actually thinks he could get up to 1,000 cards.

"His sponsors must be getting very nervous."

He has also received various cheques, all of which are going towards MND research for MNDA.
