A DISPOSABLE barbecue fire closed a road in the city in the early hours of the morning.

Firefighters was called out to a blaze in The Tything at 12.09am this morning (Tuesday).

Brittania Road, at the rear of the property, was blocked off to traffic while the fire was being tackled.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two Worcester Fire Station crews attended a fire involving decking storage and seating at the rear of a property.

“Britannia Road, at the rear of the property, was blocked during the incident.

"The police were in attendance to help with an evacuation due to the location of the premises and there were no casualties.

“The crews believed the fire was caused by a disposable barbecue."

Neighbouring properties were also searched after the fire was extinguished.

The spokesperson said: “They used one hose reel jet, a triple extension ladder and small gear to extinguish the flames before cutting away at the decking and seating area.

“Neighbouring properties were searched and a check of the scene with a thermal imaging camera revealed no hot spots. The crews left the scene at 1.23am.”
