An EYEWITNESS has shared what she saw as police descended on a residential road in the middle of the night.

Residents of Knight Street in St John’s were woken up at 4am by “banging and shouting”.

Police confirmed this morning (June 17) that a cannabis grow had been located at a property along the road.

The woman who made the first call to the police, who didn’t wish to be named, said she has never seen anything like this in the area before.

“I would never have thought something like this could happen,” she said.

“It’s a really, really, quiet street.

“We have a really good community neighbourhood spirit with WhatsApp groups and jubilee parties.

“Everybody knows everybody so actually for this to happen is quite scary.”

She explained she was woken shortly before 4am by the loud shouting and banging.

“We looked out and saw three or four guys running off towards Bromyard road.

“The neighbours all came out, we all kind of gathered together.

“There were also about five cars involved, including a grey Audi which had its window smashed.

“A car had run into others, I think three were written off and another two significantly damaged.

“Police have been here since 4am.”

So far, police have only confirmed that a cannabis farm was found at one of the properties on Knight Street.

It is not yet clear if any arrests have been made and no comment has been made on the reported incident involving the cars.

However, smashed glass and car lights could be seen on the road near the property police were investigating.

Speaking at around 1pm on Saturday (June 17) an officer at the scene said: “We don’t know what happened last night yet.

“A cannabis grow has been found here and has been seized.

“We will probably be here for a few hours while we wait for it all to be recovered.

“We have had a few funny faces with residents asking what has happened but there’s nothing to be concerned about.”
