A TELEPHONE box in Powick had a famous face use its facilities.

Game of Thrones and Casualty actor Clive Mantle stopped off at the Crossroads Caring for Carers Worcestershire phone box yesterday (Tuesday).

Mr Mantle has been a well-known face on television screens and has played roles in The Vicar of Dibley, Dr Mike Barratt in Casualty and Lord Greatjon Umber in Game of Thrones.

Care manager Helen Simmons said the star was fantastic and very kind.

She said: "He wanted to help our charity and raise awareness, he is very kind and was very good at posing!"

Mrs Simmons has made it her mission to have as many famous faces visit the phone box, which is used as an Information Point for the charity.

So far, the phone box has rubbed shoulders with its famous patrons Suzanne Virdee who features on Midlands Today, and Tony Adams, who plays Adam Chance in the television soap Crossroads and auctioneer Phillip Serrell.

She said: "Anyone we can get a hold of, but my aim in life - before I die - is to have someone famous singing in our phone box.

"Like a pop concert but in the phone box."

Crossroads Caring for Carers Worcestershire was formed after the company that made the show Crossroads, ATV, decided to donate £10,000 to set up a pilot project to support family-based carers in a practical way.

The charity has now spent the past 40 years providing help to those in the care industry.

British Telecom made the phone box redundant, and Worcestershire Crossroads Caring for Carers bought it for £1 to transform it into an information and recruitment point.
