A NEW Indian restaurant is opening in Worcester city centre.

Harakat Indian Restaurant is hosting its grand opening night at 22 Foregate Street on Friday, June 23, following the closure of Cafe Mela.

Cafe Mela closed earlier this month much to the shock and disappointment of long-standing customers.

Harakat was originally tipped to open on Monday, June 12, but had to be pushed back due to some work-based delays.

Hussain Ali, manager at Harakat, said he is looking forward to meeting customers

"We are very excited to be opening tonight, who wouldn't be?

"We are looking forward to seeing everyone who will be coming."

On The Harakat website, the restaurant is described as "a haven of fine Indian dining nestled in the heart of Worcester."

The description goes on to say, "Our restaurant combines the rich heritage of Indian cuisine with a modern twist, offering an exceptional gastronomic experience that tantalizes the taste buds and delights the senses."

When Cafe Mela closed, a statement from the owners read: "It is with a heavy heart that we share this news with you today.

“After careful consideration and evaluation, we regret to inform you that our business has permanently closed its doors.

“This decision was not an easy one to make, and we understand that it may come as a surprise to many of you who have been loyal patrons over the last few years.”

The post continued: “Thank you once again for being part of our journey. We hope that our paths may cross again in the future.

“Until then, we wish you all the best in your endeavours and thank you for the cherished memories we have created together.”
