THE new owner of a cafe has come up with a creative new idea to add a bit of spice to their menu.

Elgars Coffee Shop and Licensed Restaurant in Reindeer Court has been a staple coffee shop in the city centre for the past two decades.

But now the "little gem" of a cafe will be plating up Nepalese food in the evenings after serving its popular teas and cakes throughout the day.

Most people knew Mustafa Gocman as the face behind the counter for the past 21 years, but in 2022 Raj Kunwar took the reigns.

Mr Kunwar, who is from Nepal, hopes to bring a new sense of life to the cafe by plating up Nepalese food in the evenings between 4.30pm to 10pm from Tuesday to Sunday.

Mr Kunwar believes the Nepalese addition to the menu will help his business amid the cost of living crisis.

The businessman already has experience in running curry houses in Malvern called The Everest Eatery and Yak N Yeti.

He said: "I have two curry houses in Malvern, I know how to run them.

"It seems like a good way to manage the cost of living crisis and manage our expenses and costs.

"There has been a rise in costs and everyone has been feeling it.

"It's not the same as it was before.

"Our prices have doubled, everyone is struggling right now.

"We haven't formally opened yet, we're hoping to open in a month.

"We did plan to open something like this when we took it over last year, but the logistics of everything took a bit of time.

"But it was about time that we open.

"Nepalese food is becoming more well-known now, it's similar to Indian food, but people are starting to recognise it more."

Previous owner Mr Gocman has offered to help if they need it.

He said: "They've been keen to do it for a while and I think it is a really good thing.

"I ran the cafe for 21 years and I was working seven days a week and I was so tired, I needed a break.

"But if they need any help with the new venture, I would be more than happy to help."
