WORCESTERSHIRE Pride is back and bigger than ever.

The celebration of all things LGBTQ+ will return for the fourth year, with hundreds of people set to take to the streets of Worcester.

This year’s event will be the biggest one yet, organiser Mathew Skilbeck has promised.

He said: “I'm so excited to be involved with Worcestershire Pride 2023, I came on board in 2019 and have seen the event grow year-on-year.

“It's great to be heading to a much bigger location on Copenhagen Street Car Park, where we will be able to welcome even more people to attend the event. 

“Last year we saw well over 1,000 people attend so hopefully this year will be even more.

“With the temperature looking to be hot, we are hoping the crowds will come.”

As ever the centrepiece of Worcestershire Pride will be a parade through the town, starting from Cathedral Square and heading down High Street before passing through Broad Street down to the fountains on South Parade.

The parade will be led by deputy mayor, Mel Allcott, and MP Robin Walker.

Festivities will continue throughout the day at Copenhagen Street Car Park, with live music from acts such as Terry Walls, Pork Pie and Come Together.

Meanwhile, local businesses and community groups will be setting up stalls alongside a string of food vendors, including Little Bento Box.

As if that wasn’t enough, an official after-party will be held at The Flag in Lowesmoor.

While the event is sure to be fun, Mr Skilbeck is hoping the event will also continue to spread a crucial message.

He added: “Worcestershire Pride is important for so many people in the community, we are still now seeing hate crime in the UK.

“Pride is about celebrating how far we have come since it all started after the Stonewall riots in 1969. 

“In many places around the world being a member of the LGBTQ+ is against the law.”

Worcestershire Pride is free to attend and will take place on Saturday, July 15.

It will be held at Copenhagen Street Car Park, starting at 10am and finishing at 7pm.
