A BANK branch has shut its doors for the final time after the "difficult decision" was made to close it for good.

HSBC in Droitwich has officially shut, following a “careful evaluation” carried out by the banking giant.

It is one of 114 HSBC branches set to close across the UK this year, with the nearest branch now 6.44 miles away on Bromsgrove high street.

Announcing the decision to close the Victoria Square branch, a HSBC spokesperson said: “We continually review our Branch Network to ensure our branches are in the right locations which refect the long-term changes in the way customers choose to bank with us.

“Retaining a sustainable Branch Network is extremely important to us and we need to ensure it is ft for the future.

“Therefore, after careful evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to close this branch on Tuesday, 4 July 2023.”

They continued: “We are here to support you and there will be plenty of other ways you can continue to do your banking with us.”

A detailed report on how people use the Droitwich branch found that 361 individual customers used the branch in the last ten months and 153 businesses.

HSBC found that nationally the number of people visiting had dropped by 65 per cent over the course of five years.

It further revealed that nine in ten of its customers now transact via their phone, internet or smartphone, while 99 per cent of cash withdrawals are made at an ATM.

After the closure, there will be two remaining banks in Droitwich which will be Lloyds and Santander.
