Each bed and breakfast is judged out of ten on the level of dust on its door handles and how local the black pudding is in its full English.

The owner is scored on friendliness and hosting skills.

Former Worcester Warriors player Steve Lloyd and former Warriors commercial director Kathy Leather won the show in 2017.

Regarding the win, Ms Leather said: "We agreed to do Four in a Bed as we thought it could be good publicity for us and a bit of fun and excitement being involved with the program.

"Winning was very emotional, and we were pleased and proud that we had won. We have had many people call us from all over the country saying how much they enjoyed it and how they liked our B&B, which has been really lovely."

Worcester's oldest pub fared well as it took centre stage in one of the series packed with innuendoes

Owner Nigel Smith took the couples morris dancing before a meal at Saffron’s Bistro in New Street, where he explained the extensive history of the inn.

Overall, the couples were complimentary towards the Friar Street establishment and agreed they would all stay again given the opportunity.

But in a shocking turn of events, one couple had knocked marks off for supplying sugar in a bowl rather than in their preferred individual sachets.

Sean and Maxine McGahern vowed to go on the programme to show how good the Royal Foresters Country Inn really is.

Mr McGahern said: "We said we were just going to be ourselves when we learned we were going to be on the show.

"The other winners of the show seemed to be playing the game, and they thought they were doing themselves a favour, so we said it doesn't matter where we come in the show ourselves at the place, that was as important."

Andrew and Joanne Hodges said owners were excited to see themselves on TV when their show aired in 2021.

Mr Hodges said: “I thought hospitality was hard, but filming is so difficult – filming for hours and hours was so tiring.

“It was filmed in March, so it was full lockdown, and we couldn’t do any activities.

“So, we decided on a walk up to Lickey Hills and Beacon Hill Castle, and we also led a talk about old Birmingham.

“It went down really well!”
