The Worcester Plinth, at the old Screen House off of Hylton Road, has welcomed its latest installation called Wild Worcester: Sky Lions and Other Animals by Tarragon Kelham.

The work is inspired by the medieval carvings of animals in Worcester Cathedral and medieval bestiaries.

Oliver Carpenter, one of the Worcester Plinth team, said “We really loved the combination of ideas from Tarragon, how they link to the history of Worcester, how myths and legends grow up but how reality is more incredible, plus the fun that local children had contributing to the work.

"We know our communities will really enjoy engaging with the work.”

The artist has been working with young people at the Hive who have helped further inspire her work.

The work will be displayed in The Hive after it comes down from The Worcester Plinth and will then move to a school to be permanently displayed.

This artwork is the fourth piece on The Worcester Plinth and it is funded by The Elmley Foundation.

The Screen House has been unused since it was the water outlet for the power station on Hylton Road, Worcester which was demolished in 1979.

Mr Carpenter said: "Working with the city’s artists and arts organisations, we want to develop something similar to the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, a location to say something about all that is marvellous about our City and bring ‘big art’ to our riverside.

"It is visible all along the riverside from the Arches to the bridge and the Cathedral."

The Worcester Plinth team is open to all kinds of responses for the space from a range of artistic disciplines.
