Another move to build new homes off a country lane has been made after the last plan was rejected by the council.

Deborah Proctor wants to build up to six homes at Thorndon Grove in Windmill Lane, Stoulton, near Drakes Broughton after seeing a separate plan to build the homes on the opposite side of the road rejected by Wychavon District Council.

Wychavon District Council approved a plan to build two homes on the land off Windmill Lane in March but then rejected another plan to build up to six homes on fields on the opposite side of the road.

Ms Proctor has now applied for permission to build up to six homes on the same land the council approved for two homes earlier this year.

The council also approved a plan to convert a steel barn at Thorndon Cottage into two homes in 2020. A new plan to scrap that plan and instead build a five-bed home was put forward in March.

Planners at Wychavon District Council said six homes were too many, would be “inappropriate” for the area and would “harm” the character of the area.

The council also called the plan “unacceptable” because it would be built on countryside land and outside the agreed development boundary for Drakes Broughton.

Drakes Broughton Parish Council had come out against the original plan for two homes saying homes should not be built outside the agreed boundary and the narrow lane was used as a shortcut by drivers who were often found speeding.

“The parish council objects to this application as it is outside of the boundary of the neighbourhood plan,” it said in an objection to Wychavon District Council. “There has been considerable development in this country lane and there is no mains sewer in the area.

“This country lane is used as a shortcut by motorists driving at unsafe speeds.”

The parish council had asked for the county council to consider cutting the speed limit on the country lane to protect residents and horse riders.

You can have your say on the plan by visiting Wychavon District Council’s website. The application number is W/23/01611/PIP and consultation ends on August 24.
