A DAD-OF-ONE caught driving whilst disqualified in the past came close to going to jail after committing the offence again.

Liam Coulthard, of Liverpool Road, Worcester, has been given a final chance to prove he can be rehabilitated and stop his offending by magistrates.

Aleigha Adams, prosecuting, said the 29-year-old was stopped by police in Hetherington Rise on July 29 this year following checks of the Audi he was driving on their database.

Miss Adams said the defendant admitted to police he was driving while disqualified and had no insurance.

The prosecutor highlighted Coulthard's criminal record of four previous convictions for 11 offences, which included crimes of drug driving and driving whilst disqualified.

"His record aggravates the offence," the prosecutor said.

Coulthard admitted driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without insurance during his appearance at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday, (August 17).

Elle-May Macey, defending, said Coulthard has been disqualified in 2021 and not been in court for more than two years.

She said Coulthard's life had changed in recent years as he had become carer to his daughter for most of the week while also working two days at the Muller factory.

"Because of the changes he is remorseful for his actions," Miss Macey said.

"His main priority is caring for his daughter, making sure she has a good upbringing."

A probation service representative told the court there was a "clear pattern of offending" which could be worked on in rehabilitation with him.

Susan Dowty, chairman of the magistrates bench, told Coulthard he was being jailed for 12 weeks.

"This is going to be suspended for 18 months due to the detrimental impact on a child and the realistic prospect of rehabilitation," the chairman said.

Coulthard must complete 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days and 100 hours of unpaid work.

The defendant was told to pay costs of £135 and victim surcharge of £154 - a total of £289.

Coulthard was also disqualified from driving for 24 months.

The chairman said: "You know the consequences of driving whilst disqualified. If you do it again you are going to prison."
