A FAMILY fears their home will be flooded after a main burst outside their home.

The family has been watching water pour into their garden since a burst water main on Liverpool Road sent water spraying into the air since 9am this morning (Monday).

Wayne Davies and daughter Chelsea Hughes have been told it could be hours before the issue is fixed.

Mr Davies said he has moved his furniture from the front of his house and items like his TV are now being stored upstairs.

The two have been provided with a special float to help move the water away from their property.

"At the moment, we are okay," Mr Davies said.

"If it gets any higher, then Severn Trent said they will authorise the fire brigade to come with sandbags.

"We have moved our furniture just in case."

Mrs Hughes added: "Mum and Dad rang me this morning saying the pipe had burst, but it is nowhere near as big as it is now.

"I decided to come and help out where needs be, and police had blocked off the road, so I walked down and had to climb over the fence.

"I am here to protect the water from going into the house and damaging everything.

"I fear that it will get worse, and there will be more pressure."

The burst water main is sending a jet of water high into the sky, and no time has been given from Severn Trent as to when it may be stopped.

Mr Davies was alerted to the issue when a neighbour warned him about his car being parked under the burst main.

"My car was parked on it, so I was too scared to move it in case it exploded or something like that or sank," he said.

"My first reaction was that I needed to move my car, and I just kept thinking something was going to go boom.

"It has been a steady progression as the pressure has moved the tarmac up.

"Stone and rocks have been flying out, and I am more concerned with that."

Police are on the scene to direct traffic away from the affected area and ensure all are safe.

Officers say that the water is pushing up rubble from the road and have advised passersby to stay away.
