A 'GEYSER' caused by a burst main on a residential city road has been repaired but the road is still closed.

A high-pressure stream of water burst from the ground on Liverpool Road, spraying onto the road and nearby properties.

The water was pushing up rubble from the road and passersby were advised to stay away from the area.

The leak, which started at around 9am on Monday, August 21, has now stopped and the area has been cordoned off within the original road closure.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We’d like to thank everybody for their understanding whilst our teams fixed a burst main near Red Hill Lane and then a secondary burst on Liverpool Road.

"Our engineers have fixed the issues and we can confirm everybody should be back on supply.

"The road closure will remain in place on Liverpool Road to allow for the road reinstatement to take place.

"Due to the damage and to ensure this work is carried out effectively, the road may be closed for a couple of days.

"We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused and we’re getting everything back to normal as quickly as possible.”

Severn Trent Water staff worked through the night on the burst water main and received high praise from residents.

One resident said: " Severn Trent workers were here until about 4am this morning but they pre-warned us and didn't make much noise at all.

"It is a nuisance of course but it has to be sorted. Our property didn't get any water damage thankfully."

Another resident also praise the efforts of West Mercia Police for handling the cordon at the scene yesterday.

Mrs Lilley said: "I would like to commend both West Mercia Police and Severn Trent Water for their hard work and efforts on resolving this.

"They were both brilliant."

Another Liverpool Road resident said: "We were really lucky as we weren't affected. We have water and everything in our property.

"I am just glad it's stopped but you can see the disruption it's caused. It was certainly unexpected."

The road still remains closed to traffic, but there is still pavement access.
